Developing Coaching Skills for International Business: Transferable and Culturally Appropriate

Dr Manfusa Shams and Professor David Lane

2nd July, 2010 1.30pm-4.30pm (Registration from 1.00pm )

A half day workshop to be held at the BPS London Office, Tabernacle Street, London

The essential framework for delivering coaching skills for international business is embedded within the structural social system. As such the needs for international business coaching skills will be best served if the structural components within a social group/culture are incorporated into the coaching skills enhancing activities. The workshop is based on developing transferable coaching skills for application to international business organizations, with an appreciation of present global economic crises. We will also consider issues of complexity drawing on work by Stacey, Cavanagh and Lane for multinational contexts.

The workshop will be structured around two major themes of international business coaching - ‘culturally appropriate’ and ‘transferable coaching’.

The workshop aims to:

  • Present the context of developing appropriate coaching skills for international business
  • Offer good models of transferable coaching techniques for international business
  • Provide practical, ‘hands-on’ activity to develop international coaching skills
  • Draw on practitioner’s valuable insight, to offer an ‘activity pack’ for participants’ own practice

Key features:

  • Theoretically grounded coaching skills for international business organizations
  • Generating transferable coaching skills from selected cases
  • Practitioner’s input to develop an activity pack for practice
  • Ethical and professional good practice in international business coaching
