Coaching and Therapy: Similarities and divergences [...]
This paper considers critically the major similarities and differences between coaching and therapy as presented by previous authors. In particular, it considers Jopling’s contribution of the idea of a ‘fuzzy space’ between the professions and argues that coaching psychology is particularly well placed to inhabit this ‘fuzzy space’. Finally, the paper considers three major issues that provide pathways to both convergence and divergence between the professions: contracting; the quality and type of relationship being engendered; and the interrelational stance.
Keywords: ‘fuzzy space’; contracting; relationship; inter-relational perspective.
