Editorial
Kasia Szymanska In our first edition of 2006 we kick-off with five articles based on papers presented at our second annual conference last December. The topics covered are very diverse, starting with a paper by Michael Carroll on the value of supervision in coaching psychology practice. In the second paper Anne Scoular and Alex Linley present the results of research into the two ‘sacred cows’ of coaching, goal-setting and personality type. Then Ho Law gives a summary of his workshop outlining the impact of ethical principles on practice. Next, Kristina Gyllensten and Stephen Palmer introduce a study into the effectiveness of coaching on stress reduction. In the last paper in this ‘conference section’ Jenny Summerfield focuses on the similarities and differences between coaching and counselling and the application of appropriate interventions in coaching sessions. More information about the conference and the contributors, together with photos, is on page 40, in Jennifer Liston-Smith’s in-depth report. In addition to the above papers, on page 29, Kieran Duignan writes about the link between coaching and the retention of employees with disabilities and following on from his paper Vicky Ellam and Stephen Palmer introduce parent coaching. Finally we have two book reviews from Simon Duff and Keiran Duignan, a report from Siobhain O’Riordan, our new chair elect, on SGCP events, and a working document from the Professional Practice and Research Sub-Committee outlining a strategy for working with non-profit organisations. I just want to finish off with a quick reminder. The deadline for the September issue is 30 June 2006 and while my preference is for articles to be e-mailed to me directly, please do remember that my correspondence address has now changed, as The Centre for Coaching has moved. The new address is Broadway House, 3 High Street, Bromley, BR1 1LF. Have a relaxing summer! Kasia
