Coaching Psychology Practicum: The Living Field in Coaching Supervision

Sue Congram CPsychol

9th June, 2010 11am-5pm (Registration from 10.30am )

A one day workshop to be held at the BPS London Office, Tabernacle Street, London

Supervision for coaches has become an essential aspect of good practice. So how can both supervisor and coach ensure that supervision is oriented towards an ever deepening of the coaches professional capacity to be effective and make meaning of their work?
The aim of this one-day event is for coaches and supervisors of coaching psychology, to learn about the ‘living field’ in the supervisor-coach relationship; a perspective that attends to unseen influences active in the coach-client work. Through an interesting presentation on the key ideas of ‘field theory’, followed by practice groups, participants will learn about the core principles of a ‘field view’ and then apply this to their own case work. The workshop will offer different lenses to look beneath the surface of professional and ethical responsibilities in the coach-client relationship, towards the hidden, often complex ingredients of socially and culturally embedded psychology. Participants will have time to reflect on their own case material as a rich, multi-layered narrative.

You will learn

  • Key principles of ‘field theory’ in the supervisor-coach-client relationship and how this perspective can throw light on social and cultural influences in coaching issues.
  • Practical ‘living field’ supervision skills using case material, structured around core ‘field’ principles.
  • Ways to explore the coach-client narrative as a multi-layered source for learning.
  • This event is relevant for supervisors and coaches.
