The Naked Coach: Ethical Dilemmas in Practice

A one day Professional Practice event to be held at the
BPS London Office, Tabernacle Street, London

Friday 7th October 2011; 11am - 5pm

If you think that doing the right thing is a deeply dull and worthy burden or, if you think it’s too obvious to bother with, or even if you hope your insurance will take care of it - come to this workshop. But also come if you care about standards in coaching psychology, if you are committed to being the best you can be and if you think an ethical compass is an essential asset and a selling point as a professional. This is a learning and practice session, getting down to the basics of what you stand for, naked underneath your professional veneer; how do you apply your personal and professional ethical values in all your work? We will include:
  • What’s in a code? The essentials from the BPS and HPC.
  • What is ethical practice? Why is it the primary pillar of the professions?
  • How do you notice an ethical dilemma approaching? How can it be avoided? What are common pitfalls that you might not even think about?
  • How can we best work through dilemmas?
  • What’s needed to act ethically in the face of conflicting demands and pressures?
  • What do you do if you slip off the straight track, or if someone says you have? How to respond to a complaint.
We have a lot of information to share, but will also focus on working with your experiences in this interactive workshop. Please bring your own stories and dilemmas as we will use your material, as well as extant scenarios, to bring this practice to life.
